"A New Year"
We are now well on our way to a new year. The holidays are rapidly fading from our minds and new resolutions will soon be proclaimed (maybe forgotten). As our church family gathers for worship in the year 2012, we look at all who are familiar and we wonder how to reach those who may be strangers among us. God wants us to be his voice, hands and feet here on earth; in fact he has commissioned us to do just that. We are steadily moving through our visioning process which includes evaluating our purpose and mission in this community for this time in the life of the church and we are looking for input from everyone.
At this time of the year many people begin to examine what they may need to do to make changes in their lives. Some people choose to drop by for a visit, perhaps searching for some kind of connection.Others have backed away from their connections with the church in order to check out new relationships in other churches. We are always hoping that individuals will give us another opportunity to provide what they may be looking for in their journey of faith.I welcome the opportunity to answer any questions or concerns you may have. This spring we are planning a “Coffee with the Pastor” and an “Inquirers’ Brunch” to provide the setting for those conversations.
In January and February my sermons will focus on a new series entitled “Do We Have to Have a Vision?”God’s vision and purpose for us is always right before us.The questions we may have are, “Do we recognize it?Do we want to participate in it?Are we willing to give ourselves to it?My prayer is that we can answer these questions together through our worship, our studies, our fellowship, and our prayers at Cape St. Claire UMC.I said many times that the easiest habit to break is going to church; the hardest habit to re-establish is going to church.May we all begin this year with renewed hope and determination to revitalize our relationship with God, remembering that God will never abandon us.
